NOW ISSUES

Economic Rights - NOW is dedicated to winning full economic equality for women. We are fighting for equality in pay, jobs, credit, insurance, pensions, fringe benefits and Social Security.

Eliminating Racism - NOW condemns the racism which inflicts a double burden of race and sex discrimination on women of color.

 Homemakers' Rights - NOW affirms the economic value of the vital services homemakers perform for family and society. Laws must reflect the reality of marriage as an equal economic partnership.

Lesbian/Gay Rights - NOW fights discrimination based on sexual orientation in all areas including employment, housing, public accommodations, child custody, military and immigration policy. "Lesbian" must no longer be an epithet used by patriarchy to divide women.

 Political Rights - NOW recognizes the need for women to be politically active at all levels, to run for office, and to participate in the political decision-making process of the community and nation. We work for candidates, both women and men, who support feminist goals.

Reproductive Rights - NOW asserts that these are issues of life and death for women. NOW supports access to safe and legal abortion, effective birth control, comprehensive reproductive health care, and sexual education.

 Sexual Harassment - NOW confronts sexual harassment which intimidates and impedes women in the work place, education, the justice system, the house, and the street.

 Violence Against Women - NOW challenges the image of women as victims and acts to revoke the assumed right of men to rape, batter, and abuse women and children.
