NOW's 5th Merchant of Shame

Oregon NOW joined the National NOW nation-wide action against this corporate giant by holding a rally at the new Wal-Mart store on W 11th Street in Eugene. Rally started at noon and featured a number of speakers. Thanks to all who helped make it a great success.

The National Organization for Women has declared Wal-Mart a Merchant of Shame. The numerous complaints filed against this giant include sex discrimination in pay, promotion and compensation, wage abuse, exclusion of contraceptive coverage in insurance plans, violations of child labor laws and the Americans with Disabilities Act, and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Cases have also been filed regarding firing pro-union workers, eliminating jobs once workers joined unions, and discouraging workers from organizing. In addition, Wal-Mart continues to refuse to dispense Preven, the "morning-after pill." For more details...
